We Remember

Our Veterans

As we enjoy this 2014 Memorial Day weekend, let us take just a few moments to remember the men and women who have and are serving in the military.  Memorial Day is a day to remember those that have died and we share that thought by remembering all our veterans who have passed on.

On April 19, 1951 General Douglas MacArthur address the United States Congress and finished his speech with this thought “…. I remember the refrain of the most popular barrack ballads of that day which proclaimed most proudly that old soldiers never die, they just fade away…just fade away, as old soldiers who tried to do his duty as God gave him the light to see that duty.”  That light might be dim, but if we remember, even for just a moment,  that light will not go out.  Our tribute to Our Veterans.

Your Flag and My Flag

Your flag and my flag,

And how it flies to-day

In your land and my land

And half a world away!

Rose-red and blood-red.

The stripes forever gleam;

Snow-white and soul-white —

the good forefathers’ dream;

Sky-blue and true-blue, with stars to gleam aright —

The Gloried guidon of the day, a shelter through the

night

Your flag and my flag!

And, oh, how much it holds —

Your land and my land —

Secure within its folds!

Your heart and my heart

Beats quicker at the sight:

Sun-kissed and wind-tossed —

Red and blue and white,

The one flag — the great flag — the flag for me and you

Glorified all else beside — the red and white and blue!

Keep Your Head Down Allemande

Keep your head down Allemande,

Keep your head down, Allemande,

Last night, by the Pale Moon Light,

We saw you, we saw you.

You are mending your broken wires,

When we opened our rapid fires,

If you want to see your Vater

Und your Vaterland,

Keep your head down, Allemande.

 Battle Hymn of the Republic

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;

He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of

wrath are storied;

He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible

swift sword –

His truth is marching on.

Please remember all those men and women who have served this country since its beginning this Memorial Day Weekend.  We are so appreciative of veterans, their families and our friends for their thoughtfulness in assisting us in preserving veterans’ records and related military material for future generations.  Donations welcome.
